Periodontology – MOVE SLIDER

Periodontology is a field of dentistry that deals with periodontal disease (including gums) and mucous membranes. Gingivitis is a common problem for our patients. Inflammation can cause our gums to bleed when we brush our teeth, causing pain, swelling and redness.

If we neglect this problem, it may soon be that untreated gingivitis will lead to periodontitis. It is important to detect the disease as early as possible and start treatment to avoid moving teeth or even their loss.

Chronic periodontitis, commonly referred to as “periodontitis”, is the most common reason for a patient going to a periodontist. Patients complain that their gums ‘retract’ causing teeth to move, halitosis (an unpleasant odor from the mouth), and the smile ceases to be aesthetic (elongated crowns of the teeth).

The main question arises – can I prevent it all or cure periodontitis? Visualisation © Eskulap.co.uk

Periodontology – Teeth and gums treatment – How does it work?

Periodeotology deals with problems such as loosening of teeth, bleeding gums, exposing the dental cervix, tartar or parodontosis. These diseases can have many causes but the most common of them are:

Inadequate oral hygiene – we know that you need to take care of your teeth with daily oral hygiene. It is recommended to brush your teeth 3 times a day. The toothbrush should not irritate the gums. It’s good to use dental floss and mouthwash to get rid of food residue.

Substances – keep alcohol and cigarettes to a minimum.

Incorrect diet – too much sugar, incorrect selection and quantity of fruit and vegetables, lack of vitamins.

Malocclusion – can cause gum pain.

What effect does gum treatment and periodontitis give?

Visual effect – no stone and no unpleasant smell from the mouth are observed immediately. Wait a few days for the gums inflammation to go away. For the first 1-2 days, the gums may be slightly more sensitive when consuming warm drinks or brushing. This is completely natural and you should not worry about it.

Early treatment of teeth and gums brings measurable effects.

Can I prevent all this, cure periodontitis?

Periodontitis? Prevent – yes! Cure – unfortunately not, but you can stop the problem to progress. How? The first and most important step is to remove the cause, i.e. tartar. The scalping treatment is painless, quick and gives almost immediate effect. It involves removing hard deposits with an ultrasonic scaler, then the deposits are removed with a special sandblasting powder, and finally polished. You should also opt for fluoridation to protect your teeth against hypersensitivity and tooth decay. During the visit, the doctor also familiarizes the patient with techniques of brushing teeth, also selects the optimal brush, paste and other aids for oral hygiene.

How often should I repeat hygienisation?

It depends on how quickly the stone builds up. It’s best to arrange a professional teeth cleaning immediately during a follow-up visit. The minimum is 1x per year. However, there are patients who will need hygiene every 3 months – these are most often people using permanent orthodontic appliances, as well as patients with less manual skills who have problems cleaning their own teeth (including disabled patients).

Can every patient have teeth scaling performed?

A contraindication to the use of an ultrasonic scaler is the presence of a pacemaker and ear snail prosthesis. In addition, due to transient bacteremia during the procedure, people with certain diseases (e.g., Non-normalized diabetes, osteoporosis treated with bisphosphonates, patients undergoing chemotherapy) will be asked to agree to the treatment of the attending physician or the procedure will be performed in an antibiotic cover. Pregnancy is not a contraindication to the procedure.

The Internet is buzzing with tips on how to remove a stone yourself. We appeal to all our patients – do not do it alone at home! It is impossible to independently remove deposits safely without specialized equipment. Home remedies can only cause irreversible damage to the enamel, permanent hypersensitivity, and even a fracture of the tooth crown.

What else do patients report to a periodontist?

With all kinds of lesions on the mucous membrane of the cheeks, lips, palate, tongue, dry mouth, burning sensation. Very often, their cause is smoking, an acute diet, and stress. The doctor after a thorough interview and examination of the patient chooses the best treatment. Any changes that occur in the mouth must not be underestimated and should be consulted immediately with a periodontist. Closed or open curettage may be necessary for more advanced periodontal disease. It is a procedure performed under local anesthesia involving the professional cleaning of the root teeth from stones.

    Quality and Safety

For the sake of your safety and well-being, in the clinic every procedure is preceded by a consultation. During the pre-surgery consultation, each patient must inform the physician of all their current and past illnesses, medications they are taking or have taken, and their health. Consultation before surgery will dispel all your doubts and fears.
