Why Dermaroller is bad for you? Microneedling vs Mesotherapy

Today we are unboxing the Dermapen 4. A medical microneedling device and comparing it to other microneedling alternatives. But before we dive in, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Less pain less trauma less recovery time.

History of Microneedling

Collagen induction therapy, including dermarollers and dermapens, skyrocketed in the ’90s for smoothing scars and revamping skin texture. This skin revolution tapped into the magic of collagen and elastin, transforming countless complexions. Fast forward to 2010, when Stene Marshall introduced the groundbreaking Dermapen.

What is Microneedling

Microneedling is essentially poking little holes in the skin and by doing that it creates controlled damage to the tissue. It activates would healing factors triggering what we call Collagen Induction.

But why would you want to damage your skin? Skin is a barrier that protects you and therefore you should protect it. Well, the key to achieve effective skin regeneration is to get active ingredients into and through your skin. And this is where microneedling steps in. It helps you to break that barrier and allows nutritious elements to penetrate deeper achieving better results.

Microneedling is a great complementary tool used during other procedures. Combine microneedling with treatments like RF Radiofrequency, or enhance hair growth when paired with Minoxidil or Rogaine. This powerful technique can also be used with PRP to boost effectiveness. With microneedling, we can achieve tighter skin, noticeably reduce scars and wrinkles, all by harnessing your skin’s natural ability to rejuvenate!

Derma Roller vs Dermapen? What’s the difference?

Let’s talk about derma rollers. They work by rolling needles over your skin like a little pastry roller. The needles enter and exit your skin at an angle. The ‘paddle effect’ that follows causes a sequence of more painful, arching wounds that need additional healing time. Because of this, the needles may eventually burr or get dull. Who wants blunt needles repeatedly pricking their skin? No, thanks!

On the other hand, a microneedling pen is a motorized device with a disposable, sterile needle cartridge installed at the tip. It penetrates the skin vertically as it moves across the surface. In comparison to a derma roller this method does not cause unnecessary tissue damage. The Dermapen 4 takes it up a notch with a built in RFID chip that controls the depth of the puncture, ensuring precision and gentleness.

Key differentiating factor between the original Dermapen and other skin pens is the oscillating speed of the needles and the quality of creams and serums that are applied and infused into the skin. Dermapen 4 is fast, creating up to 1900 injections each second. In 10 minutes you could have one million flawless micro-channels in your skin. Although, the depth may be adjusted from 0.2 to 3.0 mm, most treatments don’t require more than 1mm for incredible results.

Don’t get me wrong, some scars may require needling 3mm deep. However, this should be left to qualified professionals in a sterile environment equipped with appropriate instruments. And the Dermapen device has a special scar setting that guarantees accurate and secure operation.

Deeper and more invasive treatment is not necessarily better. Shallower injections have proven efficient in various conditions, even in clinical setups. Several skin pens in the market today, aim to mimic the success of the original Dermapen. They claim to reach depths up to 3mm which in untrained hands can be simply dangerous. A non-professional user can easily cause excess damage to the skin while being convinced this is the correct protocol.

How Mesotherapy is different from Microneedling?

Both methods trigger a reaction in the skin’s deeper layers, but are each optimal for activating different types of regenerative stimulation. Mesotherapy enables a cocktail of nutritious ingredients to be injected deeper but locally into the skin. This is done by hand or using a device like a meso-gun which is fitted with a single needle.

In contrast, microneedling involves gentle gliding of numerous microscopic needles over the tissue. This creates a wound that promotes cell regeneration, and exfoliation. A product can be then applied topically to be absorbed through the injection channels.

Both techniques can be used, and are effective for triggering collagen and elastin production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, loose skin, and skin pigmentation issues.

DP Dermaceuticals

With the DP Dermaceuticals you can unlock the ultimate skincare experience. Facial masks, CBD oils, the MG and LED collections are now part of the Dermapen family.

All the products you see here can be selected by your practitioner and used during the Dermapen treatment. As each patient is different the product will be selected individually to tailor for the unique needs of your skin.

For example HylaFuse Complex consists of thee molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid. The smallest one is able to reach skin’s deepest layers. Moisturizing thoroughly.

One item in the MG collection are the Exosomes. A popular topic recently in the aesthetic medicine world. Basically we use them as mediators between skin cells and the nervous system. They can be used for face, neck, decollete and hair growth on the scalp as well. Amazing stuff.

Dermapen lineup consists of the Dermapen device and DP Dermaceuticals. However, that has changed with the introduction of the Dermapen HOME, which now allows you to perform microneedling yourself. Dermapen HOME can be adjusted from 0.1mm to 0.5mm, making it ideal for addressing various skin concerns such as wrinkles, pigmentation issues, meso fluid infusion, problematic skin flare-ups, open pores, uneven skin texture and rosacea among others. It is not as invasive nor effective as the professional version Dermapen 4, but for home use it’s more than enough.

To experience unmatched rejuvenation Dermapen masks are perfect for use right after microneedling and weekly as part of your regular skincare regimen. What does each mask do? Visit our website to learn more.
