Blepharoplasty – hooded eyelid surgery London.

Big, open eyes. New, attractive look.

Drooping eyelids are caused by muscle weakness or damage to the nerves around the eye. However, in most cases it is due to the gradual aging process of the skin. An effective way to lift saggy eyelids is blepharoplasty – plastic surgery of the upper eyelids, performed by head and neck surgery specialists at Eskulap Clinic in London.

The skin loses its elasticity – mainly due to the gradual decrease in the amount of collagen fibers (this process begins around the age of 26). The first effect that can be observed is fine wrinkles followed by sagging skin, including sagging eyelids.

The way the skin covers the pupil can interfere with normal vision, for example when working, reading, or driving a car. For therapeutic and aesthetic reasons, this procedure is indicated for patients with upper eyelid ptosis, and its purpose is to remove excess soft tissues on the eyelid.

If you are considering this treatment, here are some of the benefits that you may experience:

  • One of the main reasons why people opt for an eyelift is because it can help to create a more youthful appearance.
  • The skin around the eyes is some of the thinnest on the body, so it is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. An eyelift can help to tighten the skin around the eyes, and can also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

How can I prepare before the eyelid surgery?

As the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, no specific tests are usually required before this type of procedure. Occasionally, however, doctors may order routine laboratory tests (morphology, coagulation, depending on the patient’s health condition) and other additional tests, such as electrocardiograms and x-rays of the lungs.

Smoking patients – due to its negative impact on the healing process – should quit smoking three weeks before and after the procedure. They must also take into account that, for the sake of the patient, surgeons may refrain from surgery for active smokers who are unable to quit during this period. On the morning of the procedure, the patient is recommended to wash the operating field with antiseptic soap under running water.

Pictures will be taken and areas will be marked on the skin to obtain the best results of the treatment with precision.

The results of the eyelid surgery.

Pain symptoms may worsen to some extent with increased exercise, and it may be appropriate to take oral pain medications for the next few weeks.

Normal symptoms include swelling, redness, increased heat, and bruising at the treatment site, which gradually disappear within 2-3 weeks after surgery. The dressing will be removed the day after eyelid surgery. The sutures will be removed approximately 7-14 days after the procedure.

After the mucus has subsided, wait two days to take a bath under running water. You can usually resume full activity 10-14 days after surgery, and exercise can resume 3 weeks later. Postoperative scars can sunburn, and sunbathing in these areas is prohibited for one year after surgery. Approximately 4 weeks after the wound has healed, siliconizing with a special gel begins.

Until the wound is healed, hygiene should be followed according to the doctor’s instructions. Do not take any action that may irritate or break the skin covering the wound. If the wound and skin become wet or dirty, clean the area with a disinfectant.

The results of the eyelid lift procedure are visible immediately after the procedure. Over time, the redness and swelling of the tissue will subside, the tissue structure will return to normal, and the cut line will decrease.

The final result of blepharoplasty is determined by the individual characteristics and health of the patient. Adequate compliance with the rehabilitation process, following the recommendations for the care of wounds and scars can accelerate wound healing and full recovery in about 6-18 months.
